FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Oklahoma State's men's golf team saw its season come to an end on Tuesday in the semifinal round of the NCAA Championship with a 3-2 loss to Texas at Blessings Golf Club.

"We had a fantastic year. What good theater that was right there. Hate to see it end that way, you don't see lip outs like that very often, but there was no one on our team I'd want to end that spot other than Zach, that's why he was in that spot. He has been a star for us. We had a fantastic week. It's not hard to find positives at all. That is not the way we wanted to week to end but you've got to give Texas credit. They got three points and that is what it takes to win," OSU head coach Alan Bratton.

The Longhorns put two points on the board quickly with Cole Hammer defeating OSU sophomore Matthew Wolff, 4 and 3, and Pierceson Coody knocking off senior Hayden Wood, 5 and 4.

The Cowboys answered with junior Viktor Hovland's 2-and-1 victory over Spencer Soosman and sophomore Austin Eckroat's 3-and-2 win over Parker Coody.

The outcome came down to the final match of the day between OSU senior Zach Bauchou and Steven Chervony. Neither player led by more than one hole throughout the match. Bauchou took the lead at 11 and again at 13 before Chervony won the next two. Bauchou squared the match at 16 and regained the lead on 17 before Chervony made birdie at the last to force extra holes.

The two players went back to No. 1 and Chervony sent the Longhorns into tomorrow's championship match after Bauchou's par putt lipped out.

The Cowboys advanced to the semifinal round after defeating SMU, 4-1, in quarterfinal action Tuesday morning.

Hovland put the first point on the board for the Cowboys, defeating Ben Wong, 5 and 4. The two players were all square heading to the second nine before Hovland won five consecutive holes to close out the match.

Wolff added the second point for OSU with a 2-and-1 victory over Noah Goodwin. Wolff claimed the ninth to turn with a 2-up lead and won the 10th and 11th to double his advantage. Goodwin claimed the 15th and 16th before Wolff closed out the match at the 17th with a halve.

Senior Hayden Wood closed out match with a 2-and-1 win over Ollie Osborne in Match Three. Osborne made the turn with a 2-up advantage before Wood stormed back with four consecutive wins to start the inward nine. The duo halved the final four holes to close out the match and secure the outcome.

Sophomore Austin Eckroat defeated Jackson Markham, 2 and 1, for OSU, while Mac Meisnner put SMU's point on the board with a 3-and-2 win over senior Zach Bauchou.

Noteworthy:
Hovland and Wolff were among the 10 players named PING first-team All-Americans by the Golf Coaches Association of America. The distinction marks the second consecutive year both players have garnered the honor.
