OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma State had its nine-game Bedlam Series winning streak snapped Saturday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark as Oklahoma picked up a 3-2 walk-off win in 10 innings.
With the loss, the 16th-ranked Cowboys fell to 29-17 overall and 11-9 in Big 12 Conference play, while OU improved to 31-19 and 9-11 in the league. The Bedlam Series concludes with a rubber game Sunday in Norman, with first pitch scheduled for 2:05 p.m.
OSU managed just four hits in the contest, two of those solo home runs by Trevor Boone and Colin Simpson, and struck out 14 times against five different OU pitchers.
Ben Leeper took the loss on the mound to fall to 3-2 despite recording four strikeouts and allowing only one hit in 1 2/3 innings. The lone run he allowed was unearned.
OSU took the game's initial lead in the fourth inning when Boone smashed his Big 12-leading 17th home run of the season, a blast to left-center field with two outs that put the Pokes up 1-0.
After keeping the Sooners off the scoreboard over the first four innings, OSU southpaw Parker Scott was relieved on the mound by Logan Gragg to open the fifth. OU loaded the bases with one out via a pair of walks and a single before Gragg collected a strikeout for the second out of the inning. But the righty's next pitch was wild to bring home the tying run, making the score 1-1.
OU would take its first lead of the series in the sixth. Justin Mitchell led off the inning with a single and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Conor McKenna that gave the Sooners a 2-1 advantage.
The Cowboys faced the one-run deficit until, with two outs in the eighth, Simpson greeted Levi Prater, who had just come out of the OU bullpen, with a home run to right field on Prater's third pitch. The blast was Simpson's 10th of the season and tied the game at 2-2 as he became the fourth OSU player to reach double-digit round trippers this season.
In the decisive bottom of the 10th, OU leadoff hitter Tanner Tredaway reached on an error by Andrew Navigato to open the inning. After Brady Lindsly was hit by a pitch, Leeper struck out the next two Sooners to bring up Mitchell, who delivered his third hit of the game with a single to left field. OSU's Carson McCusker came up firing, but his strike to home plate was not handled by catcher Bryce Carter, and the winning run scored.
