STILLWATER - Oklahoma State defeated Arkansas, 7-2, in a 14-inning fall exhibition contest Saturday at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Â
The Cowboys used a five-run rally in the 13th inning, highlighted by newcomer Jake Thompson's second home run of day, to propel them to victory.
Â
Much of the game was a pitching duel as just one run crossed the plate in the first nine innings. That score came in the second on an RBI single by Brock Mathis that plated Caeden Trenkle, who had opened the inning with a base hit before stealing second and third base.
Â
Arkansas scored their lone runs of the day in the 10th as the Razorbacks collected four hits against Brett Standlee and plated a pair of runners to take a 2-1 lead.
Â
In the 12th, OSU tied the score solo homer to left field by Thompson, who finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Â
The next inning proved to be the pivotal one. After a one-out walk to Gage Gaunt, a single by Kaden Polcovich brought Alix Garcia to the plate. And the Cowboys' senior first baseman delivered, bringing home both runners with a double.
Â
Following an RBI single by Justin Campbell to make the score 5-2, Thompson smacked a two-run blast over the right field wall to complete OSU's scoring.
Â
Along with Thompson, Garcia and Trenkle each had two hits to lead the Cowboys' offensively.
Â
The Cowboys used nine pitchers in the contest, and the group combined for 17 strikeouts.
Â
OSU will play its final exhibition game of the fall Oct. 26 when the Cowboys take on defending national champion in a contest at the Kansas City Royals Urban Youth Academy.
