Cowboy Baseball Announces Recruiting Class

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State has added 17 new players to its roster for the 2019 season.
Joining head coach Josh Holliday's program are eight freshmen and eight junior college transfers as well as a Division I transfer.
"It's a quality collection of young men. A lot of time goes into finding these guys and developing relationships with them," Holliday said. "You're identifying talent, but you're also identifying makeup and a fit here – on the field, in the classroom and in the locker room – with the way these guys go about their business.
"We're excited to have these guys here. We believe in them. We recruit to our needs every year, and we feel like this group meets those needs. You try to continue the cycle of building a complete, well-rounded team with depth, and I think we've been able to address that."
Oklahoma State is coming off a 2018 season in which the Cowboys made their sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance as they finished 31-26-1. OSU advanced to the finals of the NCAA DeLand Regional and posted a second-place finish in the Big 12 Conference.
Adam Becker, INF, 6-4/207, Midland Texas (Lee HS) – A three-year starter at Midland Lee High School … 2018 Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American and All-Texas Region Second Team … led team with a .394 batting average as a senior and posted a .445 on-base percentage to earn TSWA Class 6A All-State honors … hit .429 with four home runs as a junior … THSBCA first-team all-state selection in 2016 and 2017.
Holliday on Becker: "Adam is a tall, rangy corner infielder with great power potential and very good defensive skills. Great work ethic and has the type of frame and skill to grow into a power hitting part of our lineup."
Brayden Belden, LHP, 6-1/228, Chickasha, Okla. (Seminole State JC/Chickasha HS) – Spent last two seasons at Seminole State JC … as a sophomore was 3-1 with three saves in 18 relief appearances … posted a 4.54 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 37 2/3 innings … pitched in six games as a freshman and went 1-1 with a 7.24 ERA … recorded 15 strikeouts in 13 2/3 innings of work.
Holliday on Belden: "We saw Brayden last fall as he really started to come on strong and had a great sophomore year at Seminole. He's a very aggressive left-handed pitcher with four pitches who is tough on left-handed hitters and has a high strike-throwing ability. He's a guy we think can jump right into our pitching mix and help us right away."
Bryce Carter, C, 6-1/220, Tulsa, Okla. (Stanford/Cascia Hall HS) – Played parts of four seasons at Stanford from 2015-18 … played in 26 games with 20 starts for the Cardinal last season … appeared in nine games in 2017 but was granted a redshirt season due to injury … best season came as a sophomore as he played in 31 games and hit .273 with six doubles and 13 RBIs … started 31 games at catcher as a freshman in 2015 and hit .156 with two homers and six RBIs … drafted in the 40th round of the 2014 MLB Draft by San Diego … a two-time prep All-American at Cascia Hall High School.
Holliday on Carter: "Bryce is a kid we've had a relationship with dating back to his high school days. After graduating from Stanford with one year left to play, he contacted us with a strong desire to be a Cowboy. He's a bright kid, a good player who knows the game and has experience and a strong understanding of what it takes to be successful at this level. We're excited for all the things he brings to the team."
Cross Factor, INF, 6-0/189, Yukon, Okla. (Cowley County CC/Yukon HS) – Spent his freshman season at Cowley County CC in 2018 … hit .374 in 50 games for the Tigers … was second on the team with nine homers and 60 RBIs and also had eight doubles and four triples … hit .440 with nine homers, 17 doubles and an .836 slugging percentage as a senior at Yukon High School … also went 4-0 with a 1.93 ERA on the mound.
Holliday on Factor: "Cross had an outstanding senior year of high school at Yukon and a strong freshman season at Cowley County – his is a similar path to Garrett Benge, who played so well for us a few years ago. He's a very good athlete who can on the infield or anywhere in the outfield. He has a good left-handed swing with power and is a guy we're looking forward to developing who has a chance to contribute right away."
Alix Garcia, INF, 6-2/226, Othello, Wash. (Central Arizona CC/Othello HS) – Starred last two seasons at Central Arizona CC where he was a two-time all-conference and all-region performer … coming off a sophomore season in which he batted .368 with six homers and 66 RBIs in 56 games … also posted 19 doubles and four triples … hit .333 as a freshman with three homers, three triples, nine doubles and 42 RBIs … two-time all-state performer at Othello High School who posted a career batting average over .500.
Holliday on Garcia: "Alix is a power-hitting first baseman who had two really strong seasons at Central Arizona, which is one of the best junior college programs in the country and has a great tradition of outstanding hitters. His coach, Anthony Gilich, feels like Alix is one of the better pure hitters to have come through their program over the years. He brings a knack for finding the barrel, and he gives us a good experience right-handed bat."
Ryan Gendron, INF, 6-4/203, Tulsa, Okla. (Bishop Kelley HS) – A career .370 hitter in three seasons at Bishop Kelley … hit .459 with 17 extra-base hits and 39 RBIs as a senior and led the Comets to the Class 5A state championship … was a 2018 Ferguson Jenkins Award winner … hit .303 as a junior … batted .378 with 18 RBIs as a sophomore and helped lead the Comets to the Class 5A state semifinals … also an all-state performer in basketball who averaged over 21 points per game as a senior.
Holliday on Gendron: "Ryan is an outstanding student and high-end athlete from Bishop Kelley, where we've gotten a number of kids who have had great experiences for us. He's got a great frame for a middle infielder and great work ethic, and we're really looking forward to developing Ryan and watching his skills blossom."
Logan Gragg, RHP, 6-5/192, Prairie Grove, Ark. (Connors State JC/Prairie Grove HS) – Spent the last two seasons at Connors State JC … came back from Tommy John surgery to pitch in 13 games as a sophomore and went 6-0 with a 2.06 ERA … recorded 56 strikeouts in 48 innings of work … started 14 games as a freshman and went 11-2 with a 2.50 and racked up 82 strikeouts in 86 1/3 innings.
Holliday on Gragg: "Logan is a guy we brought in to jump right into things and help our team right away. He came off Tommy John surgery in a very short turnaround last year and pitched at a very high level. He had several overtures in this year's (MLB) draft and turned them down to come and pitch for us. He's a strike thrower with a really good arm, and I can't wait to see what his desire to work and learn when paired up with Coach Walton's ability to teach will produce."
John Kelly, RHP, 5-11/174, Rutherford, N.J. (Rutherford HS) – 2018 Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American and All-Northeast Region First Team selection … three-time All-NJIC Colonial Division first-team selection … struck out 62 in 39 innings pitched and posted a 1.08 ERA as a senior … also hit .481 with 26 RBIs … went 4-0 with a 1.20 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 35 innings as a junior … also hit .391 with three triples and 22 RBIs … hails from the same high school as OSU pitching coach Rob Walton.
Holliday on Kelly: "John is a very athletic right-handed pitcher who has a very live arm. He already creates great spin on the ball at just 175 pounds, and as he continues to get stronger and grow, he's got an exciting upside. He's already a quality strike thrower with a good breaking ball, which gives him an opportunity to help us right away."
Kaden Krowka, LHP, 6-1/181, Rockwall, Texas (Rockwall-Heath HS) – 2018 Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American and All-Texas Region Second Team … named the 2018 District 11-6A Pitcher of the Year as a senior … went 9-2 and recorded a 0.82 ERA, allowing just six earned runs on the season while racking up 79 strikeouts … went 8-4 with a 1.91 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 73 innings as a junior.
Holliday on Krowka: "Kaden has always been a standout performer and strike thrower who has pitched in numerous important games growing up. He knows his way around the mound and is an advanced strike thrower for his age and with a good, lean body, there's a lot of upside to this young man."
Jake Lyons, RHP, 6-5/311, Irving, Texas (Weatherford JC/MacArthur HS) – Spent last two seasons at Weatherford JC and was a two-time All-Region V Team selection … was 16-5 on the mound for Weatherford … made 14 relief appearances and was 8-2 with a 3.14 ERA as a sophomore to go along with 104 strikeouts in 80 1/3 innings … posted an 8-3 record in 13 starts as a freshman … recorded a 2.87 ERA and struck out 119 in 87 2/3 innings … also set a school record with 18 strikeouts in a game … drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 22nd round of the 2017 MLB Draft … as a senior at Irving MacArthur High School he tossed nine complete games and was 9-1 with a 0.52 ERA … also set school record with 109 strikeouts while walking just 15 ... named the District 11-6A Pitcher of the Year.
Holliday on Lyons: "Jake is a physical presence on the mound who is coming off two outstanding seasons in junior college. He's a workhorse who throws a lot of strikes. He's a kid who we believe with a year here has a chance to really turn the corner and help us out in a big way. His track record is he's done it every step of the way, and we look forward to watching him do that again this year."
Huey Morrill, INF/RHP, 5-10/158, Live Oak, Fla. (Suwanee HS) – Drafted in the 36th round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Angels … a two-way standout who finished his prep career with a .291 batting average, 12 homers, 44 RBIs and 25 stolen bases, hitting mostly in the leadoff spot … also posted a career 1.40 ERA and 153 strikeouts in 117 1/3 innings … 2018 Perfect Game Third-Team All-American and All-Florida Region First Team … capped his prep career by hitting .289 with seven homers and 24 RBIs while also going 7-3 on the mound with a 1.07 ERA and 94 strikeouts in 58 1/3 innings.
Holliday on Morrill: "A very talented, very versatile player who has the kind of baseball skills and acumen to play any position on the field. He'll work primarily as a middle infielder and a pitcher this year. He has some pop in the bat, a very good base runner, outstanding throwing arm and has tremendous skill on the mound. He's a definite two-way player for us who we expect to have a huge impact on our program."
Andrew Navigato, INF, 5-11/187, Riverside, Calif. (Cuesta CC/Riverside Poly HS) – Spent first two collegiate seasons at Cuesta CC … coming off a sophomore season in which he hit .387 with six homers and 52 RBIs in 41 games … also had 16 doubles and five triples … as a freshman hit .229 in 40 games while driving in 15 runs as well as collecting 10 doubles and 16 stolen bases.
Holliday on Navigato: "Andrew had an outstanding sophomore year at Cuesta College. He's a very smart, heady middle infielder who can play second and short and is skilled with the bat in his hand. He'll be competing in the infield, and we're very excited about the talent and depth he brings to this ballclub."
Jake Northern, INF, 5-10/214, Coweta, Okla. (Connors State JC/Coweta HS) – Played two seasons at Connors State JC … hit .417 as a sophomore with 19 homers and 100 RBIs in 59 games … also had 27 doubles and an .834 slugging percentage … played in 58 games as a freshman and hit .360 with 12 homers, 16 doubles and 59 RBIs.
Holliday on Northern: "Jake is a kid we've been aware of since his high school days, and he had a big career at Connors State, where he produced great offensive numbers. He's a physically strong kid known for his high-level competitive spirit and work ethic and he's a great fit here. He really aligns well with our program's toughness, and his ability to put the ball in play and hit with power is something that made him attractive."
Nate Peterson, LHP, 5-10/192, Lakeville, Minn. (Lakeville North HS) – 2018 Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American and All-Central Region Second Team … turned in a 0.49 ERA and racked up 87 strikeouts in 42 innings in senior season at Lakeville North High School … had one game in which he struck out 20 batters … also batted .315 to help team capture section championship and a fifth-place state finish.
Holliday on Peterson: "Nate is a very aggressive, confident lefty with a good arm. He had a very successful senior year and has a two-pitch fastball/breaking ball combination that sets up well for him to contribute."
Tyler Polk, RHP, 5-11/198, Duncan, Okla. (Duncan HS) – Named the 2018 Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year and The Oklahoman's 2018 All-State Player of the Year and was also a Ferguson Jenkins Award winner … 2018 Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American and All-West Region First Team … went 10-1 with a 0.48 ERA and had 104 strikeouts in 58 2/3 innings … walked just 21 and allowed only 22 hits … also hit .520 with a pair of homers and triples, eight doubles and 18 stolen bases.
Holliday on Polk: "Tyler is an outstanding athlete and student who is coming off a dominant senior year. He's always had a good breaking ball – that breaking ball and the ability to fill up the strike zone with quality pitches will be something that Tyler can provide our pitcher staff now and in years to come."
Dayton Provost, INF, 6-2/204, Newhall, Calif. (Ventura JC/UCLA/Hart HS) – As a sophomore at Ventura JC hit .316 with a pair of homers, seven doubles, 10 stolen bases and 31 RBIs … redshirted as a freshman at UCLA in 2016 … 2015 Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American and PG California Region First-Team selection … helped lead Hart High School to the CIF-SS Division I championship game as a senior.
Holliday on Provost: "Dayton is a guy that when healthy has proven to be a very good player. He was a batting champion in the California Collegiate League a couple of summers ago. We're looking forward to getting him healthy and seeing him having a bounce-back year and career at Oklahoma State."

(Penn Trafford HS) – 2018 Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American and All-Atlantic Region First Team … capped prep career by hitting .300 with four homers and 17 RBIs … walked 23 times in 63 at bats and posted a .556 on-base percentage … as a junior hit .429 with five homers, eight doubles, 23 RBIs and a .786 slugging percentage.
Holliday on Spiegel: "Josh is a very mature, advanced player with a very high baseball IQ. He's mentally and physically strong beyond his years and factors into our plans this year, and he is a strong building block for years to come."
