2018 Oklahoma State Cowboy Baseball Season Superlatives

• Oklahoma State finished the season with a 31-26-1 record.

• The Cowboys earned an NCAA Tournament bid for the sixth consecutive year.

• OSU's NCAA Regional berth was the 44^th in the program's history, which ranks fourth all time.

• OSU advanced to the finals of the NCAA DeLand Regional, which marked the Cowboys' fourth NCAA Regional Finals appearance in six seasons under head coach Josh Holliday.

• Four Cowboys were named to the NCAA DeLand Regional All-Tournament Team — Colin Simpson (C), Christian Funk (1B), Andrew Rosa (2B) and Jonathan Heasley (P).

• OSU finished second in the Big 12 Conference standings with a 16-8 league mark, one game back of champion Texas.

• The second-place conference finish marked the fifth time in six seasons under Josh Holliday that OSU has finished either first or second in the league standings.

• The Cowboys posted four Big 12 Conference series sweeps in 2018 (vs. TCU, Kansas State, Kansas and OU), the most by an OSU team since it had four in 2016 and one shy of the program record set in 1999. It also marked the third time under Josh Holliday that the Pokes had three or more league series sweeps in a season.

• OSU's back-to-back series sweeps against TCU and Kansas State marked the first time since 2014 and the second time under Josh Holliday that OSU posted consecutive Big 12 series sweeps. The Pokes achieved the feat for the third time under Holliday with consecutive sweeps against Kansas and Oklahoma.

• The Cowboys also had a pair of seven-game winning streaks in Big 12 play, tying for the fourth longest Big 12 win streaks in program history. The streaks tied the 2014 OSU team for the longest ever under Holliday.

• The Cowboys were ranked in at least one national poll for five weeks in 2018.

• Matt Kroon was named the 2018 Newcomer of the Year, becoming the third Cowboy in program history to achieve that honor.

• OSU had 11 players garner All-Big 12 accolades in 2018. Named to the All-Big 12 First Team was pitcher Carson Teel, while infielders Matt Kroon and Michael Neustifter, catcher Colin Simpson and outfielder Jon Littell were named to the All-Big 12 Second Team. Six Cowboys — Peyton Battenfield, Trevor Boone, Christian Funk, Joe Lienhard, Carson McCusker and C.J. Varela — were honorable mention selections.

• Colin Simpson was named the 2018 ABCA/Rawlings All-Midwest Region First Team catcher.

• OSU had five players earn weekly honors from the Big 12 on six occasions in 2018.

• Carson Teel was selected for the Golden Spikes Award Gold Standard Performance of the Week on May 2.

• Jon Littell was named the NCBWA National Hitter of the Week on April 2.

• Colin Simpson was named to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List, while Carson Teel was named to the College Baseball Foundation National Pitcher of the Year Watch List.

• The Cowboys' 71 home runs in 2018 were the most by an OSU team since 2009 when the Cowboys had 81. OSU ranked 17^th in the NCAA in homers on the season.

• OSU had three players reach double figures in home runs — Colin Simpson (18), Matt Kroon (11) and Trevor Boone (10). The Cowboys had not had three players reach that mark in a season since the 2009 team had four.

• OSU smacked 11 homers in its series at Baylor, including posting seven in the game two win. That total marked OSU's most home runs in a game since the Pokes had eight against Kansas in 2006; the school record is 11 set against Chicago State in 1999.

• Trevor Boone tied an OSU record by becoming only the 12th player in OSU history to hit three home runs in a game when he achieved the feat on May 12^th vs. Baylor. A player hitting three homers in a game has been done on just 14 occasions in OSU history.

• Colin Simpson's 18 homers were the most by an OSU player since Rebel Ridling had 18 in 2008. The total ranked second in the Big 12 and 17^th nationally in 2018.

• Carson Teel led the Big 12 with a pair of complete games and ranked second with eight wins and fourth with 91 strikeouts.

• Matt Kroon reached base safely in 54 of the 57 games he played in, and he had streaks of 29 and 24 consecutive games reaching base.

• In conference-only games, Matt Kroon led the Big 12 with 12 doubles and 28 runs scored.

• Andrew Rosa finished his career tied for eighth on OSU's all-time hit by pitch list with 25.

• OSU had five players selected in the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft, marking its fifth-straight year that at least five Cowboys have been drafted and bringing the total in six seasons under Josh Holliday to 37 draft picks.

Earning first-team honors were Peyton Battenfield, Brady Basso, Cade Cabbiness, Ryan Cash, Cole Hearrean, Joe Lienhard, Jon Littell, C.J. Varela and Travis Wacker. Named to the second team were Jonathan Heasley, Andrew Rosa and Carson Teel.
