OKLAHOMA CITY – Defending tournament champion Oklahoma State bowed out of the Big 12 Baseball Championship Thursday as the second-seeded Cowboys dropped a 6-2 contest to No. 3-seed Texas Tech at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The loss was the sixth straight for the 20th-ranked Cowboys as they fell to 29-24-1 on the season. OSU will now wait on its NCAA Regional fate, with the field of 64 being revealed Monday at 11 a.m.
Carson Teel took the loss against the 11th-ranked Red Raiders (39-16) as the junior southpaw fell to 7-4 on the season. The All-Big 12 First Team performer worked five innings and struck out seven while allowing three runs on four hits and four walks.
Jon Littell had a big day at the plate for the Pokes as he went 3-for-4 with a double and triple and drove in a run. Matt Kroon also had two hits for OSU.
OSU took the game's initial lead in its first at bat. Kroon got things started with a single before swiping second base, his 16th stolen base of the season. That put him in scoring position for Littell, who delivered a two-out RBI single to put the Cowboys up 1-0.
The lead did not last long, however, as Cameron Warren led off the second with his ninth home run of the season to tie the score at 1-1.
Warren struck again in the third, this time taking Teel deep for a two-run shot with two outs to give the Red Raiders a 3-1 advantage.
OSU trimmed its deficit in the fourth. Following a double down the left field line by Littell, Christian Funk stepped to the plate and delivered an RBI single to close the gap to 3-2.
The Pokes faced the one-run deficit until the seventh when TTU rallied for three runs against Reza Aleaziz. After striking out the leadoff batter, the righty gave up two singles before hitting the next batter to load the bases. Grant Little then picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice before an RBI single by Zach Rheams made it 5-2. Jensen Elliott then took the mound and hit a batter before issuing another walk to bring home a run.
Elliott would keep the Red Raiders off the scoreboard over the final 2 1/3 innings in his third outing of the season, but OSU was unable to mount a comeback.
