Cowboy Golf Back in Action at ASU Thunderbird Invite
April 13, 2018 | Cowboy Golf
TEMPE, Ariz. – Oklahoma State's men's golf team will close out its regular season this weekend when it takes part in the 46th annual ASU Thunderbird Invitational at Arizona State's Karsten Course.
The top-ranked Cowboys will be one of 17 teams in action at the par-71, 7,032-yard layout. The 54-hole event will consist of 36 holes on Saturday and 18 on Sunday. Tee times for both days are slated to begin at 7 a.m. (MST)
OSU, which matched the school's single-season mark for consecutive wins at seven with its victory at the Aggie Invitational in its last outing, will feature a lineup that consists of seniors Sam Stevens and Kristoffer Ventura, junior Zach Bauchou, sophomore Viktor Hovland and freshman Matthew Wolff.
The Cowboys' current winning streak matched OSU's 1986-87 squad for the most consecutive wins in a season in program history. Head coach Alan Bratton's squad is now taking aim at the school's overall record of nine wins in a row, which came as a continuation of the aforementioned streak when the 1987-88 squad won the first two events of its fall season.
Overall, OSU has won eight of its nine events on the year.
A pair of Cowboys enter this weekend ranked in the top five in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings with Hovland coming in at No. 3 and Wolff standing two spots behind him at No. 5. Bauchou checks in at No. 14, while Ventura is currently ranked No. 45.
In addition to the Thunderbird, five Cowboys will be taking part in a separate individual tournament at Papago Golf Course in Phoenix. Seniors Brendon Jelley and Stratton Nolen as well as juniors Hayden Wood and Nick Heinen and freshman Austin Eckroat will all tee it up at the par-71, 7,316-yard layout.
Live scoring for the Thunderbird will be available at golfstat.com.
