Howell Returns To Winner’s Circle At The RSM Classic

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga.— Former Oklahoma State All-American Charles Howell III picked up his first PGA Tour win since 2007 on Sunday, winning The RSM Classic in a playoff over Patrick Rodgers at the Sea Island Resort's Seaside Course.
The victory was the third of Howell's career and ended a drought that spanned 11 years, nine months and 333 starts.
Howell opened with consecutive 64s before carding a 68 on Saturday.
After a bogey, double bogey start to his final round, he bounced back with a pair of birdies at Nos. 5 and 6 to turn in 1-over 36. He moved back to even on the round with a birdie at the 10th. After posting birdies at the 15th, 16th and 17th, he parred the 18th to card a closing 3-under 67 and force extra holes.
Howell and Rodgers carded 19-under totals of 263.
He and Rodgers both parred the 18th on the first extra hole before Howell sealed the win with a 15-foot birdie putt at the 18th.
With his victory, Howell will start the new year as the FedEx Cup leader. He also has a fifth-place showing at the CIMB Classic to his credit.
