Cowboy Baseball Wraps Up First Day Of Scrimmages At Vandy

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Oklahoma State opened its first day of fall competition at Vanderbilt with a pair of scrimmages at Hawkins Field Saturday; both scrimmages were seven inning contests.
In the opener, Vandy claimed a 1-0 victory, while the second session saw the Commodores claim a 10-4 win. Per a predetermined point system, Vanderbilt enters Sunday with a 38-20 advantage
OSU was held hitless over seven innings in the opening scrimmage. Jensen Elliott started on the mound for the Cowboys and worked three scoreless innings while allowing just three hits before Ben Leeper came on and struck out four in a pair of shutout frames. Vandy plated its lone run in the sixth inning off Brady Basso.
In the second contest, OSU scored four runs on four hits with Huey Morrill, Alix Garcia, Carson McCusker and Colin Simpson each driving in runs for the Pokes.
The Cowboys used four pitchers in the second seven-inning affair, with starter Logan Gragg tossing three innings and allowing just one run on one hit while striking out four. Fellow newcomer John Kelly struck out three in his lone inning of work.
The two teams return to action on Sunday at Hawkins Field with first pitch set for 11 a.m; the squads will replicate Saturday's format with two seven-inning games. Admission is free, and an online audio broadcast of both matchups can be found at vucommodores.com/watch.
