Cowboys Slip in Week 4 National Polls

STILLWATER—The Oklahoma State men's cross country team fell two spots to No. 24 and the women's squad stayed put in a tie for 29th in Week 4 of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Coaches' Poll, the organization announced Tuesday.
After their first contest since Sept. 1, the Cowboys finished 15th in a crowded field at the Nuttycombe Invitational. The field of 33 teams included 19 of the nation's top 30, including seven of this week's top 10 squads.
Ashenafi Hatte finished 13th overall, finishing the 8,000-meter race in 23:36.3 in his first cross country race as a Cowboy.
OSU is one of two Big 12 teams in the rankings. Only Iowa State is ahead of it at No. 6. Texas dropped out of the rankings after being ranked 30th last week.
The Cowboys stayed at No. 2 in the Midwest Region after Monday's regional rankings were released. There was no change in the top three in the region.
The Cowgirls saw no change in their status, holding strong in the rankings, tied with Princeton at No. 29.
The Nuttycombe Invitational was also the Cowgirls first race since Sept. 1, and, like the men's team, finished in 15th place. The meet in Madison, Wisconsin, featured some of the nation's best, including the top three teams in the country (Colorado, Boise State and New Mexico).
SInclaire Johnson showed she is in top form. The sophomore stayed near the front of the race for the first 4,000 meters, going stride for stride with the nation's best. At the conclusion of 6,000 meters, Johnson took 15th place and crossed the line with a mark of 20:04.1.
Iowa State is the lone Big 12 team ahead of the Cowgirls, sitting at 15th. Texas also received votes in this week's poll.
The Cowgirls also held in this week's regional rankings, again coming in at No. 3 in the Midwest Region. The same five teams have occupied the top-five spots in the region since Week 1.
Both cross country teams return to action at 9 a.m. on October 13 in College Station, Texas, for the Arturo Barrios Invitational.
