Cowboys Remain In Top Spot At Pebble Beach

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Oklahoma State's men's golf team posted a 10-under 350 total during its second round at The Carmel Cup on Saturday to remain atop the leaderboard at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
The top-ranked Cowboys entered the day with a 12-shot lead, but saw that advantage trimmed to three strokes with 18 holes remaining at the par-72, 6,828-yard layout. OSU stands at 32-under 688 and three shots clear of Texas Tech, which fired a 25-under 335 during its second round to move into sole possession of second place. Vanderbilt and Oklahoma finished the day in third place with matching 20-under totals of 700.
Tech's Hurly Long used an 11-under 61 to climb seven spots into first place in the individual race at 14-under 130.
OSU's Hayden Wood finished the day one shot off the pace set by Long after carding a 67 during his second round. The junior followed an opening 64 with a 67 to stand alone in second place.
Wood opened with back-to-back birdies and added another at the fourth before carding his lone bogey of the day at the eighth to turn in 2-under 34. He used a bogey-free inward nine that included birdies at Nos. 11, 16 and 17 to get to his 5-under score.
Senior Kristoffer Ventura followed an opening 66 with a 70 to stand at 136 and tied for sixth place.
A pair of Cowboys came in tied for 15th place at 140 with senior Brendon Jelley and junior Zach Bauchou signing for rounds of 70 and 71, respectively.
Freshman Matthew Wolff's 72 tied him for 21st place at 141.
Sophomore Viktor Hovland carded his second consecutive 72 to finish at 144 and in 33rd place.
The Cowboys will begin their final round tomorrow at 8:10 a.m. (PST) and will be grouped with Texas Tech, Vanderbilt and Oklahoma. Live scoring for the event is available at golfstat.com.
