KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Former Oklahoma State standout Talor Gooch secured his PGA Tour card for next season with his one-shot victory at the Web.com Tour's News Sentinel Open presented by Pilot at Fox Den Country Club on Sunday.
With the victory, Gooch moved from 20th to third on the Tour's money list to lock up his status as a PGA Tour member next season. He is now the fourth member of OSU's starting five from its 2011 squad to achieve status on either the PGA or European Tours, joining Morgan Hoffmann, Kevin Tway and Peter Uihlein.
The win also comes on the heels of a runner-up showing at last week's Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr. Pepper. Gooch now has five top fives on the year and has $271,316 in earnings this season.
Gooch entered the final found in fourth place at 12- under par with rounds of 66, 67 and 68 to his credit before closing with a 6-under 65, which erased a five-shot deficit. His 18-under total of 266 was one shot clear of Jonathan Hodge.
A native of Midwest City, Okla., Gooch was flawless during his fourth round. He turned in a clean card that featured birdies at the fifth and sixth to turn in 2-under 33. After carding birdies at Nos. 10 and 11, he added two more at the 14th and 15th holes before closing his round with three consecutive pars.
