Cowboys Slip To Ninth At NCAA Championship

Round 2 Results
SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – Oklahoma State's men's golf team posted a 287 during its second round at the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship on Saturday to stand alone in ninth place at Rich Harvest Farms.
The Cowboys completed their first round this morning, carding a 6-under 282 to finish in a three-way tie for second place. OSU followed with its 1-under tally during its second round at the par-72, 7,300-yard layout to wrap up the day at 7-under 569 and a shot behind Baylor and LSU for seventh place. The Cowboys are just seven shots out of the lead held by UNLV, which carded a 279 during its second round to get in with a 14-under 562 total.
Viktor Hovland followed an opening 68 with a 74 to lead the OSU starting five. The freshman stands at 142 and tied for 28th place.
Sophomore Hayden Wood was a stroke off the pace of his teammate, carding a 72 during his second round to come in tied for 41st place at 143.
After posting a 69 during his first round, senior Zachary Olsen's second-round 76 tied him for 62nd place at 145.
Junior Kristoffer Ventura and sophomore Zach Bauchou each stand at 147 through 36 holes, tying them for 80th place. Ventura carded a 73 during his second round, while Bauchou fired the squad's round of the day with a 4-under 68.
Bauchou got out of the gate quickly, with birdies at Nos. 2, 3 and 5 before carding four consecutive pars to turn at 3-under 33. After posting his lone bogey of the round at the 12th, Bauchou answered with birdies at the 15th and 16th for a 1-under 35 inward nine.
The Cowboys will begin their third round tomorrow at 6:45 a.m. (CST) and will be grouped with LSU and Baylor. The 30-team field will be trimmed to 15 after tomorrow for Monday's fourth round.
Of Note: This week, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced its five Dave Williams Award finalists. For the second year in a row, Oklahoma State's Alan Bratton was among those chosen as a candidate for the national coach of the year honor.
Additionally, six Cowboys received Ping All-Central Region honors on Saturday with Bauchou, Hovland, Olsen, Ventura and Wood being joined by junior Sam Stevens as those named to the squad.
