OSU Celebrates Academic Success Of Its Student-Athletes

STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State celebrated the academic achievements of its student-athletes over the past year with its 24th annual Academic Awards banquet on Monday night at the Wes Watkins Center.
More than 420 student-athletes were honored for their work in the classroom at the event. In order to receive an invitation, student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA, achieved a combined 3.0 GPA over the spring and fall semesters in 2016 or achieved a combined 3.0 GPA over the spring, summer and fall semesters in 2016. Graduating seniors are invited to attend as well.
Cowgirl soccer standout Courtney Dike and Zachary Olsen, a member of the Cowboy golf squad, were recognized as the Scholar-Athletes of the Year. The award is presented to a male and female student-athlete who has been exemplary in the classroom, in the community and on the court or field of play.
During the spring and fall semesters, more than 125 student-athletes were listed on the President's Honor Roll for achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA during that semester. During that same time span, 200 student-athletes were named to the Dean's Honor Roll for achieving a 3.5 or better GPA.
The 2016 calendar year saw 148 OSU student-athletes receive Academic All-Big 12 recognition, including 121 first-team selections with a 3.2 or better GPA. The league also recognized 269 student-athletes as members of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll (3.0 or better GPA) for the spring of 2016 and 323 for the fall of 2016.
Additionally, a school-record 36 individuals were recognized as recipients of the 2017 Arthur Ashe, Jr., Sports Scholar Award.
The Director's Chair winner for each sport was unveiled as well. A committee selects the senior student-athletes who have successfully maintained a balance in academics while making a difference in their sports. The award is presented to those who exemplify what a student athlete should be.
This year's winners are as follows: Brenna Brawner (Equestrian), Courtney Dike (Soccer), Davey Dolan (Wrestling), Phil Forte (Men's Basketball), Noah Gade (Men's Track & Field), Linnea Johansson (Women's Golf), Austin Johnson (Spirit Group), Katie Kehl (Women's Track & Field), Halie Lindberg (Spirit Group), Katelyn Loecker (Women's Basketball), Brad Lundblade (Football), Zachary Olsen (Men's Golf), Nathan Roper (Men's Tennis), Carla Tur Mari (Women's Tennis), Whitney Whitehorn (Softball), Matt Wilson (Baseball).
