STILLWATER – Oklahoma State snapped Missouri State's eight-game winning streak Tuesday with a 7-3 win over the Bears at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Â
Carson Teel racked up a career-high 10 strikeouts in relief to earn the win, and his battery mate, Michael Neustifter, went 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the OSU offense as the 18th-ranked Cowboys improved to 7-5 on the season.
Â
OSU overcame an early 2-0 deficit after starter Joe Lienhardt gave up runs in the first and second innings before the Cowboys tied it with a pair of runs in the third. Neustifter led off that inning with a double and later scored on an RBI sacrifice bunt by Ryan Cash, and the Pokes knotted the score at 2-2 on Colin Simpson's RBI single.
Â
The pivotal inning came in the fourth. After Teel retired the Bears in order in the top of the frame, Andrew Rosa led off the home half with a walk. Two batters later, Neustifter blasted the first home run of his career, a two-run shot to left field, to put OSU up, 4-2. The Cowboys tacked on two more runs on a double by Garrett Benge later in the inning.
Â
Pitching with a 6-2 lead, Teel gave up his only run with two outs in the fifth on a solo home run by Hunter Steinmetz.
Â
Other than the homer, the Cowboys' sophomore southpaw dominated MSU (10-2) over the final seven innings as he allowed only three hits and did not issue a walk. His 10 strikeouts marked the most by an OSU pitcher this season.
Â
OSU's final run came on Neustifter's third RBI of the contest, a single to center field that pushed the lead to 7-3.
Â
Simpson also had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-4 to record his fourth-straight multiple-hit game.
Â
OSU continues its 10-game homestand Friday at 4 p.m. when the Cowboys open a three-game series against South Dakota State at Reynolds Stadium.
