STILLWATER – Oklahoma State pushed its season-best winning streak to six games Saturday with a 7-2 victory over Northwestern State at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Â
With the victory, the 18th-ranked Cowboys clinched their third-straight, three-game series win as they improved to 13-6 on the season.
Â
Freshman Jonathan Heasley picked up the win in just his second-career start, while Jon Littell and Colin Simpson each drove in two runs to help lead OSU to victory.
Â
The Cowboys used a four-run rally in the second inning to seize control of the game, scoring three of the runs with two outs.
Â
Garrett McCain led off the pivotal inning with a triple to the left-center field gap, and Simpson followed with an RBI groundout to put the home team up 1-0. After Andrew Rosa singled and stole second, Cade Cabbiness struck out, but Littell stepped to the plate and lined an RBI double off the left field fall to bring home OSU's second run. Up next, Cameron Dobbs picked up an RBI single before Ryan Sluder's opposite-field double made the score 4-0.
Â
Northwestern State (5-12) scored its lone run off Heasley in the fourth when David Fry delivered a solo home run to left field to cut the Demons' deficit to 4-1.
Â
That was about the only mistake Heasley would make. The righty, who made his team-high 10th appearance but has been used mostly as OSU's closer, worked 7 1/3 innings and struck out six while walking two. The home run in the fourth was the only hit he surrendered as he improved to 2-2 on the season.
Â
OSU added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth, on a sacrifice fly by Garrett Benge and an RBI double by Simpson, before plating its final run of the day on an RBI single by Littell in the seventh that gave the Pokes a 7-1 advantage.
Â
The two teams conclude the series Sunday with OSU going for its first three-game series sweep of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
