INVERNESS, U.K. — Former Oklahoma State All-American Alex Norén earned his fifth career European Tour victory on Sunday, posting a one-shot triumph at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open after closing with a 70 at Castle Stuart Golf Links.
"I was hitting my driver really well this week like I haven't done before and that gives you a lot of confidence — hitting from the fairway," Norén said. "I didn't miss that many shots this week, which I have done in the past and the confidence is a lot better."
With his win, Norén becomes the second Cowboy in a row to win the event after Rickie Fowler emerged victorious last summer.
After an opening 70 on Thursday, the Stockholm, Sweden native used a 66 on Friday to surge to the top of the leaderboard heading into the weekend. On Saturday, Norén maintained his standing with a 68 before posting his 2-under closing score to finish at 14-under 274 and a shot clear of Tyrrell Hatton.
Norén's previous career victories came at the Nordea Masters in 2015 and 2011, the Saab Wales Open in 2011 and the Omega European Masters in 2009.
