OSU Wraps Up Steve Miller Open

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Oklahoma State finished its first meet of the weekend Friday at the Steve Miller Open in Manhattan, Kansas, with seven top-three finishes and two wins.

Simon Imagbe and Arlando Brewer-Johnson led the way for the Cowboys, both in the long jump and both finishing with the two best marks in the competition. Imagbe won the competition with a 7.08m/23-2.75 jump, which was just four inches shy of his season's best from a week ago, and Brewer-Johnson's jump of 6.91m/22-8.00 earned him second place.

Ieva Zarankaite won the shot put competition with a throw of 14.72m/48-3.50. She topped her personal best in the event and claimed the No. 5 mark in school history in the process. Her throw also moves her up to ninth in the Big 12.

A quartet of Cowgirls landed in the top-10 of the weight throw, including Chase Ealey. The All-American threw an 18.59m/61-0 to take second place in her last competition of the regular season. Freshman Aina Maartensson, Zarankaite, and Katie Kehl all joined Ealey in the top-10.

Cole Verble competed in the 60-meter hurdles, high jump, long jump and shot put as a warm up for the Big 12 heptathlon slated for next weekend. Verble threw a season's best in the shot put, improving on his previous mark by more than two feet.

"This was a nice tune up for the group and an opportunity for some underclassmen to step up," throws coach Lucais Mackay said. "Aina operated very well in the weight throw and Cole threw the shot well."

In the men's 600-yard run, all five Cowboy runners finished in the top-eight. Ryan Wheatley finished second in his heat but third overall with a 1:13.50. Trenton Daniels and Chance Galloway finished just behind Wheatley in fourth and fifth, and Tanner Green and Brayden Brock took seventh and eighth, respectively.

During the women's triple jump, two-time Big 12 champion Viktoriia Sadokhina landed her best jump of the season to finish in third place. Her jump of 11.86m/38-11.00 trumped her previous best by two feet and moved her up the Big 12 list to 12th and just a foot outside the top-10.

"Things are shaping up for an exciting Big 12 meet for us," Mackay said.

The final weekend of the indoor regular season resumes Saturday in South Bend, Indiana, as a few athletes aim to put up qualifying times for the NCAA Championships before the Big 12 Indoor Championships Feb. 26-27 in Ames, Iowa.
