Alex Norén Earns Third Victory of the Season
October 16, 2016 | Cowboy Golf
Norén closed with a 2-under 69 to finish at 18-under 266 at The Grove and two shots clear of Bernd Wiesberger. After opening with a 67, Norén followed with a pair of 65s to enter the final round with a three-shot lead.
After opening his final 18 with a pair of birdies, Norén saw his lead trimmed to one after carding bogeys at the eighth and 11th holes. Wiesberger birdied the par-5 15th to tie the lead before Norén followed with a birdie at the par 5 to move back into sole possession of the top spot.
He then sealed the seventh European Tour victory of his career with a tap-in birdie at the par-5 18th and become the first Cowboy to win the event since Bob May in 1999.
In 17 starts this year, Norén has tallied three victories and a runner-up finish as well as three other top-10 showings. In the process, he has seen his world ranking jump from No. 108 in July to 18th after his most recent win.
The Stockholm, Sweden native has been particularly impressive over his last nine outings. After finishing eighth at the Open de France, he emerged victorious at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open in July. Norén finished second at the Aberdeen Asset Management Paul Lawrie Match Play before picking up his second victory of the year at the Omega European Masters in his next start.
Before his win on Sunday, Norén tied for 11th place at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
