OSU senior is 6-2 on the season with a 1.31 ERA
LUBBOCK, Texas -- Oklahoma State senior Michael Freeman has been named to the National College Baseball Hall of Fame National Pitcher of the Year Watch List.
Freeman is one of 46 pitchers on the list for the 2015 award, which will be presented on June 29 in Lubbock, Texas, as part of the National College Baseball Hall of Fame's Night of Champions.
Freeman is having a breakout senior season for the Cowboys. Recently named one of 60 players on the watch list for the Golden Spikes Award, given annually to baseball's top amateur player, he has solidified a spot in OSU's weekend rotation and in nine starts is 6-2 with a 1.31 ERA.
A 6-foot-8 southpaw, Freeman leads the Big 12 with 68.2 innings pitched, two complete games and a .184 opponent batting average, and e ranks in the top five in the league in wins, ERA and strikeouts (60). He has allowed just five earned runs in 59.0 innings over his last eight starts.Freeman has already captured Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honors three times this season -- March 2, 23 and 30 -- to become one of just 15 pitchers in Big 12 history to garner the accolade three or more times in the same season and the only OSU hurler to do so. He is also only the 10th pitcher in conference history to win the award in consecutive weeks, joining Matt Smith (1998) as the only other Cowboy to do that.
