OSU Sends Seven to NCAA Quarterfinals

All four Cowgirl 800-meter runners advance
AUSTIN, Texas -- The Cowgirls sent five to the quarterfinals and the Cowboys added two more Thursday at the NCAA West Regional in Austin,
Texas. Four Cowgirls advanced to the 800-meter quarterfinals and John Teeters ran a season best in the 100-meter prelim.
Savannah Camacho led the way for the Cowgirls in the 800, finishing with the best time of the quartet in 2:07.88 and placing second in her heat.
Kaela Edwards and Kaylee Dodd both had automatic qualifying times as Edwards' 2:08.41 earned her a third place finish in heat five, and Dodd's
2:09.42 was the second best time in heat six.
"It was awesome to see all of them get through," coach Dave Smith said. "Kaela and Savannah, we kind of figured they'd get the job done, and
they definitely took care of business. Kaylee had a massive kick in the home stretch to get from seventh to second."
Anna Boyert ran a personal best 2:08.21 in the third heat, but finished fourth and made the quarterfinal with a time qualifying mark.
John Teeters picked up right where he left off at the Big 12 Championships in the men's 100-meter preliminary race. He ran a season best
wind-aided mark of 9.95. Teeters won heat four and his time was the second fastest of the day, just behind Trayvon Bromell's 9.94.
Big 12 champions Natalja Piliusina and Chad Noelle both advanced to the quarterfinals in the women's and men's 1,500-meter runs, respectively.
Noelle's 3:44.45 was the second fastest time in the event and the second fastest time in his heat, which was by far the fastest of the day as it
produced six of the day's best times.
"Chad looked great," Smith said. "He was in control of the race with 100 to go and didn't burn it on the home stretch. These kinds of races are very
tactical and sometimes the fastest athletes don't advance, so he and coach Bobby Lockhart worked on some new things going into this weekend."
Piliusina finished 16th in the preliminary, but won her heat in 4:26.40.
"Today was hot, windy and humid," Smith said. "There were a lot of athletes that struggled but she made it look easy out there. She still hasn't run
a great 1,500 this year, but she's run some fantastic 800s and we know she has it in her."
Caileigh Glenn ran a 4:26.26, but missed out on qualifying by less than a second because her heat had six women advance to the quarterfinal.
"They always put a preference on place and she just barely missed out with a good time in her heat," Smith said.
The 100-meter quarterfinal will start at 6:45 p.m., Friday and the 800-meter quarterfinal will follow. OSU will have athletes competing in the men's
and women's 3,000-meter steeplechases, the men's shot put and the women's discus.
