Cowboys Remain In Sixth At Southern Hills

TULSA, Okla. - Oklahoma State's men's golf team posted a 12-over 292 during its third round on Tuesday at the Big 12 Championship to remain in sixth place at Southern Hills Country Club.
Through 54 holes, the Cowboys stand at 46-over 886 and trail Oklahoma by three strokes. Texas posted a 2-over 282, giving the Longhorns an 849 total at the par-70, 7,151-yard layout and a 20-shot lead.
UT's Scottie Scheffler carded a 68 during his third round to move into first place in the individual race at 207.
OSU was led by Jordan Niebrugge, who posted the squad's low round of the event with an even-par 70 to move into a tie for 13th place at 219.
"I played really well. I struck the ball well all day and hit a lot of fairways, hit a lot of greens," Niebrugge said. "A couple of holes, I got on the wrong side of the hole. Otherwise, I took advantage of some of my better shots and made a couple of birdies on the back nine."
The junior stood at 2-over for the day after bogeys at the third and sixth, before carding his first birdie at the par-4 ninth to turn at 1-over 36. After adding three consecutive pars to start his outward nine, Niebrugge posted birdies at the 13th and 15th to move under par before moving back to level par with a bogey at the 16th. He then closed out his round with back-to-back pars.
Sophomore Zachary Olsen also finished at 219 after carding a 73 during his third round.
Redshirt freshman Brendon Jelley signed for a 76 to stand at 226 and tied for 28th place.
Senior Tanner Kesterson also posted a 76 to finish the day tied for 32nd place at 228.
Freshman Kristoffer Ventura turned in his low round of the event with a 73, giving him a 231 tally and tying him for 36th place.
The Cowboys will begin their final round tomorrow at 8:50 a.m. and will be grouped with Iowa State and Oklahoma.
