July 24, 2015 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track, Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State director of track and field and cross country Dave Smith announced the addition of Teran Mixon to his coaching staff today. Mixon will assist with the Cowboy and Cowgirl distance runners and will contribute to the team's recruiting process.
"I am so excited to add Teran Mixon to our coaching staff," Smith said. "She is an absolutely perfect fit for our program. She is a Cowgirl through and through and she is passionate about OSU athletics. She is a tenacious competitor and she won't be outworked by anybody. She has been an integral part of the resurgence of our women's team as an athlete and a staff member and I have no doubt that her energy, enthusiasm and effort will accelerate the development of our entire program. I am proud to provide the young men and women on our team the opportunity to work with and be mentored by such a quality individual and role model."
Mixon joins the staff after spending the last two and a half years as a graduate assistant manager with the Oklahoma State cross country and track and field program. During that span, Mixon was part of a staff that saw the Cowgirls finish 15th at the 2014 indoor championships, a performance that stands as the second-highest in program history.
"I am absolutely thrilled to be able to continue working with Coach Smith and the rest of the OSU staff," Mixon said. "During my time here, I've had the opportunity to see Oklahoma State grow and develop into one of the top programs in the country. I'm honored to have the chance to work with that success and continue to build the future of our team."
Prior to serving as a graduate assistant manager, Mixon spent five seasons as a member of the Oklahoma State's women's cross country and track and field squad.
During her athletic career with the Cowgirls, she accumulated Academic All-Big 12 honors on five different occasions, in addition to delivering an All-Big 12 performance in the indoor 1,000 meters in 2010. Mixon currently holds the eighth-best 6,000 meter time in school history.
A native of Coalgate, Okla., Mixon received a bachelor's degree in health education and promotion in 2011 before going on to earn master's degrees in exercise science and health care administration.
