Cowboys Picked Third In Preseason Big 12 Poll
February 05, 2015 | Cowboy Baseball
IRVING, Texas -- Defending champion Oklahoma State has been selected to finish third in the 2015 Big 12 Conference baseball standings in a preseason vote of the league's head coaches, it was announced today by the conference office.
TCU was chosen as the unanimous preseason favorite to win the league title. The Horned Frogs, who finished second to OSU last season, captured eight first-place votes from the coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own team. Texas was picked to finish second and earned one first-place vote.
The Cowboys were picked to finish in a tie for second with TCU in the 2014 preseason poll but went on to claim OSU's first-ever regular season Big 12 championship after turning in an 18-6 record in conference play.
Along with the league championship, OSU is coming off a '14 campaign in which coach Josh Holliday's ballclub advanced to an NCAA Super Regional and finished with a 48-18 record. Five position players who made at least 29 starts return from that squad in 2015, as do 12 members of the Cowboys' pitching staff. Among that group are All-Big 12 performers Gage Green, Donnie Walton, Jon Perrin and Tim Arakawa.
