Cowboys Second At The Hayt

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- Oklahoma State's men's golf team opened play at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational on Friday with a 297 tally to stand alone in second place at Sawgrass Country Club.
North Florida posted an 8-over 296 score to hold a one-shot lead over the Cowboys at the par-72, 6,976-yard layout. UCLA and Alabama shared third place at 300.
Alabama's Tom Lovelady was the lone player in the field to break par, firing a 2-under 70 to lead by two strokes.
OSU had a trio of players open with 74s as senior Tanner Kesterson, junior Jordan Niebrugge and sophomore Wyndham Clark all posted 2-over scores to come in tied for seventh place.
Sophomore Zachary Olsen finished a shot behind the trio, signing for a 75 to finish tied for 15th place. Freshman Kristoffer Ventura's 76 knotted him for 21st place.
Two Cowboys are competing individually in the event. Redshirt freshman Brendon Jelley opened with a 78 to stand in a tie for 42nd place, while freshman Sam Stevens' 81 tied him for 70th place.
OSU will get its second round underway tomorrow at 10 a.m. (EST) and will be grouped with North Florida and UCLA.
