Orange & Black Gives Back: A Week Of Holiday Giving

The Oklahoma State softball and baseball squads spent time at the Stillwater YMCA and Salvation Army as part of OSU's Week of Giving.

STILLWATER, Okla. — The holiday season is one of giving, and Oklahoma State athletes did just that this week.
This week, student-athletes from numerous Cowboy and Cowgirl teams participated in Orange and Black Gives Back's Week of Giving, spreading holiday cheer throughout the Stillwater community.
"Being able to help out during the holidays, as a collegiate athlete, it's so rewarding," said Cowgirl softball's Vanessa Shippy. "Not only do we get to play sports and represent our school, but we get to come out, help the community and really make a bigger impact outside of sports."
On Monday, OSU student-athletes spent time at MPower, an organization that supplies shelter and supported employment, living and rehabilitation training services to residents of Payne County. While there, they served lunch and helped with karaoke day.
A trip to the YMCA Tuesday brought smiles to numerous young kids' faces as OSU student-athletes led a physical education class that included dodgeball, Ultimate Frisbee and other games.
Wednesday saw members of the OSU baseball, equestrian and softball teams volunteer at The Salvation Army. The student-athletes helped sort food and toys that will be distributed to citizens in Payne County this holiday season.
"It's a special deal," said Cowboy baseball outfielder Garrett McCain. "Not often do we get time out of our schedules to do stuff like this so any opportunity to go out of our way to do something special is unique.
"It's very special because as much as we do and as much as we get and with as much stuff that is going on, it's nice to be able to lend a hand and to do something else for somebody that might not have the same circumstances that we do."
