The Best of 2015 Cowboy Baseball: Winning In Fort Worth
November 11, 2015 | Cowboy Baseball
The 2015 season added to the long and storied history of Oklahoma State baseball, with the list of Cowboy accomplishments under third-year head coach Josh Holliday a long one. We're looking back at some of the most memorable moments and impressive feats turned in by the '15 ballclub, and today we look at the Cowboys accomplishing something no one else can claim.
Cowboys Win Series Against Top-Ranked TCU In Fort Worth
TCU played 29 regular season home games at Lupton Stadium in 2015. The Horned Frogs won 27 of those contests.
The one team that can boast of winning on TCU's home field prior to the postseason?
Oklahoma State.
The Cowboys traveled to Fort Worth in late March and won the first and final games of their Big 12 Conference series against the nation's top-ranked Horned Frogs.
In the opener, OSU outlasted the home team in a 12-inning affair. Dustin Williams smashed a solo home run off TCU closer Riley Ferrell in the top of the 12th, and Koda Glover worked his second scoreless frame in the bottom of the inning to seal the Cowboys' 7-6 victory.
The win saw six different Cowboys collect RBIs, while four different pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts and allowed only three earned runs.
After dropping the second game of the series by a 7-4 count, OSU sent Michael Freeman to the mound for the rubber game.
And the big southpaw delivered, tossing his first-career complete game and striking out nine in a 127-pitch effort.
The game turned in OSU's favor in the third inning when the Cowboys mounted a two-out rally that resulted in six runs. All six runs came against TCU starter Alex Young, who entered the game with a 4-0 record and 1.33 ERA.
OSU went on to win the finale by a 7-2 margin, giving the Cowboys their eighth consecutive Big 12 series win dating back to their 2014 championship season.
TCU would compile a 33-4 home record in 2015. Along with the two losses at the hands of OSU, the Frogs also dropped games on their home field to North Carolina State in an NCAA Regional and Texas A&M in Super Regional play.
