The Best Of 2015 Cowboy Baseball: Cowboys Dominate Bedlam
October 16, 2015 | Cowboy Baseball
The 2015 season added to the long and storied history of Oklahoma State baseball, with the list of Cowboy accomplishments under third-year head coach Josh Holliday a long one. We're looking back at some of the most memorable moments and impressive feats turned in by the '15 ballclub, and today we recount OSU's impressive showing over rival Oklahoma, including a historic offensive outburst against the Sooners in Stillwater.
OSU Goes 4-1 Against Bedlam-Rival Oklahoma
Beating your rivals four out of five times and outscoring them 49-15 in those games makes for a lot of fun and memorable moments.
That's what the Cowboys did in 2015 as they continued their success against Oklahoma under head coach Josh Holliday. In its first three seasons under Holliday, OSU is 11-4 against OU and has won all three regular season Big 12 Conference series against the Sooners.
The first Bedlam meeting in 2015 was possibly the most memorable for Cowboy fans. In that non-conference matchup at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium, OSU erupted for eight runs in the first inning en route to a 24-2 triumph. The 24 runs were OSU's most ever in a game against OU, and the margin of victory was the largest in Bedlam history.
OSU racked up 20 hits in the contest, with six different Cowboys collecting RBIs, and did all their scoring in the first six innings as they had frames of eight, four, three, five and four runs.
The conference series was a showdown of top 25 teams, with OSU coming in at No. 11 and OU 25th in the national polls. The Cowboys clinched the series with wins in the first two games, claiming 9-6 and 8-1 victories.
The two teams also met at the Big 12 Baseball Championship, with the Pokes knocking off the Sooners 5-1 to advance to the tourney's title game for the second consecutive year.
Among the many Cowboy heroes against OU in 2015 were:
• Conor Costello – led OSU with .357 batting average (5-for-14) against the Sooners to go along with five RBIs and a win on the mound
• Jon Perrin – won both starts against OU, pitching the Pokes to a win in the conference series opener and in the Big 12 Championship showdown
• Donnie Walton – led OSU with six RBIs against the Sooners
• Michael Freeman – earned the win in the series-clinching game with a complete game performance in which he allowed only one run on five hits and struck out seven
• Dustin Williams – went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and two RBIs in OSU's 5-1 win at the Big 12 Championship
