IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State junior wrestler Alex Dieringer was named Big 12 Wrestler of the Week for his performances against No. 3 Missouri and No. 8 Iowa State on Jan. 23 and 25, respectively, the league announced today.
It is the third honor for Dieringer in his career and second for the season.
“It feels good to know that my hard work is paying off,” Dieringer said. “This award is nice to receive and I'm honored to get this award again. That being said, I still have a lot of work to do in these next two months. I am very excited for what's to come.”
Top-ranked Dieringer earned a pair of bonus-point wins this weekend as the Cowboys took on No. 3 Mizzou and No. 8 Iowa State on the road. Against the Tigers, Dieringer faced Mikey England, who he took down four times en route to a 15-3 major decision. In Ames, the Cowboy knocked off No. 4 Mike Moreno with another major decision, 13-3. Dieringer also took down the Cyclone four times.
He is now 20-0 on the season with a 4-0 record against ranked opponents. Of his 20 wins, Dieringer has notched 16 bonus-point wins in the form of seven falls, five major decisions and four technical falls.
