JOHNS CREEK, Ga. - Oklahoma State's Zachary Olsen moved into the Round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur Championship after posting a 2-and-1 victory over Adam Svensson in the opening round of match play at the Atlanta Athletic Club on Wednesday.
Svensson struck first in the match, taking the third hole to move in front of Olsen, who is a rising sophomore for the Cowboys.
Olsen answered by claiming the sixth hole and grabbed a lead he would not surrender at the ninth. He extended to a 2-up advantage with a birdie at the par-4 10th before Svensson cut the lead in half with a par at the 11th. Olsen responded with a win at the 12th.
The duo halved the next two holes before Svensson took the 15th with a par. After halving the 16th, Olsen sealed the match at the 17th, winning the hole with a par.
He will take on Bo Andrews tomorrow at 9:35 a.m. (EST).
Fellow Cowboy Jordan Niebrugge was eliminated during the first round of match play, falling to Will Zalatoris, 2 and 1.
