Head Assistant Coach Eric Guerrero
On the close matches
"I think you look at it for what it is. Regardless of who you're wrestling or what the individual score of that match is, you always have to judge things based on 'were championship habits executed?' If you look at it any other way, you're probably going to give yourself a false sense of reality. You can't look at the score necessarily, and you can't necessarily look at the fact that maybe those matches were closer than you wanted. You have to look at 'were we executing championship habits that are going to put us in the best scenario to be our best at the end of the year?' and the answer was no, not really. Some weights did, most weights didn't. I think people wonder, maybe, why do you wrestle an NC State or this or that, this why you do it. They bring a different style, they've got nothing to lose, they've got great coaches with coach Carter (Jordan) and coach (Lee) Pritts. We knew we were going to get their best, and they flew all the way out here from North Carolina, yeah, we were going to get their best, and that's kiind of why we put our guys in this scenario. We probably would've liked them to exhibit more championship habits, but if anything, it gives us a lot to visit with them about tomorrow and a lot to improve on between now and Sunday. What do I think we need to do more? We need to do more championship habits. What's that? It's getting takedowns early in the first period, finishing out tough first periods, getting takedowns in the middle of the second, finishing periods on top, getting turns, coming off the bottom, having the first move off the bottom. All these things will give you your best opportunity to compete. Like I said, we did some of that, but we also didn't do some of that tonight."
On major decisions in the second half of the match
"Major decisions are good; they're worth a point at Nationals. That's what we're workiing for; we're working for bonus points, so from that standpoint it's good. What I see, at two of those weights, those are weights that maybe people would have clssified us as struggling, and all I can say is maybe struggling is good. Maybe the adversity is good because these guys (Dallas Bailey-165 and Chris McNeill-184) came out against a very motivated team and put up 14 and 15 points respectively, and if we're doing that every match, we're going to be in good shape. Maybe adversity and struggle are good because those guys have definitely responded."
On if he has seen 10 takedowns in period, which Jordan Oliver did in the first period
"In my wrestling career, no. Jordan Oliver is very focused, and that's the only way you can do 10 takedowns in the first period is to be extremely focused, so good for him."
Dallas Bailey
On his bout
“I felt a lot better. I wrestled well in the first period with that take down. Bonus points were my main concern. I don't think I wrestled perfect.  I made a lot of mistakes here and there but I feel like I am making progress.”
On the dual
“This is the first of three duals this weekend and it was important that we got off to a good start tonight.”
On the close duals
“Everyone in college wrestling knows how to wrestle, so you have to expect that.  It comes down to character and you have to find a way to win those two points instead of losing them.”
