Coach John Smith
On overtaking Iowa State for the most all-time dual victories
"I'm pleased to be a part of it. It's kind of odd we beat Iowa State on that day. It's good to beat Iowa State on that day. It's a tradition, it's a history that it's a privilege to be a part of. I'm a small part of it. It means a little bit more with the passing of Coach (Myron) Roderick. I'm sure he's smiling because it establishes another record for our program."
On if he expected to be so dominant
"I expected a lot tougher match, I think, from a standpoint of watching what they did at OU. It seemed like they've been peaking a little bit and starting to come out of some poor early dual meets. They had a win against Virgina Tech, came back and competed well down in Norman; lost a close battle against a good team. I just felt like we were relentless tonight. In a lot of areas, it seemed like we got some big moves early, and then we just kept the pressure on and kept looking for more. There's some things I've been preaching, and you don't always get what you preach, but tonight I did."
On Josh Kindig's performance
"That match may have come from his poor effort on Friday night. Josh Kindig losing a match that was ugly and it forces you to feel the adversity and are you going to come through this adversity? Those are some of the things we talked about after Friday. 'You're in a hole right now, and if you don't start coming out of it, it may be another season you'll have to wait.'"
Heavyweight Alan Gelogaev
On his bout against Matt Gibson
“He came at me hard. He was trying to keep the match intense, and I answered back. I kind of sat back and just started watching it. The rankings are always overrated, but he's not bad. He did a lot of scrambling and stuff. You just have to keep it intense.”
141-pounder Josh Kindig
On his bout against Luke Goettl
“I feel like I was going through some adversity. I was losing but I just kept to the game plan because I knew things would work out.”
On the team
“Everybody has been working hard. We had those two weeks off to push ourselves to the max. By lifting and practicing for those two weeks it has really paid off for us.”
