Cowboys In Second At Olympia Fields

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. - Oklahoma State's men's golf team opened play at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational on Friday with a 282 to stand alone in second place at Olympia Fields Country Club.
The Cowboys' 2-over score put them five off the pace of Stanford, which carded a 3-under 277. The Cowboys finished the day three shots ahead of Auburn, Alabama and Ohio State at the par-70, 7,142-yard layout.
Individually, Stanford's Andrew Yun grabbed the top spot on the leaderboard with a 4-under 66, while Alabama's Bobby Wyatt manned the No. 2 spot with a 67.
For the Cowboys, junior Drew Page led the way with a 1-under 69 to finish among a group of seven players tied for fifth place. The Waynesville, N.C., native put together a bogey-free round that featured 17 pars. Page went out in even-par 35 after carding nine pars in a row on his front nine. After stringing together five more pars to begin his inward nine, Page posted his lone birdie of the day at the par-5 15th before closing with three more pars.
Sophomore Kevin Dougherty came in a stroke back and tied for 12th place. Dougherty made the turn at 2-over 37 after a double bogey at the eighth, but rebounded with back-to-back birdies at the 14th and 15th to move back to even for the day.
Junior Sean Einhaus finished the day tied for 15th place after carding a 71, while sophomore Talor Gooch's 72 tied him for 25th place.
Senior Peter Uihlein carded a 74 to stand in a tie for 43rd place.
OSU will begin its second round tomorrow at 9:20 a.m. and will be grouped with Stanford and Auburn. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
