Cowboys Headed To NCAA Nashville Regional

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State was selected as one of 64 teams in the 2011 NCAA Baseball Championship field and will be competing in this week's NCAA Nashville Regional in Nashville, Tenn., it was announced today.
The Cowboys are 35-23 on the season and are the No. 2 seed in the Nashville Regional. Host Vanderbilt is the top-seeded club and also drew a No. 6 national seed, while third-seeded Troy and No. 4-seed Belmont round out the regional field. OSU will open play Friday against Troy at 2 p.m.
The winner of the Vanderbilt Regional will advance to the Super Regionals to face the winner of the Corvallis (Oregon State) Regional.
This year's NCAA Tournament berth marks the 38th in OSU baseball history, a total which ranks fourth all time. It is the Cowboys' sixth NCAA Regional appearance under eighth-year head coach Frank Anderson.
OSU has advanced to the finals of an NCAA Regional in each of its last four appearances, the last of which came in 2009 at the Clemson Regional.
"We're excited being in the tournament, and we just need to go out and play," Anderson said. "Everybody is 0-0... We're going to have to pitch and play defense. Nashville is a place where the ballpark plays pretty fair. We've got to pitch and play defense, and that's what we did all year long until the latter half. We need to get back to that."
Vanderbilt brings a 47-10 mark into the tourney and is making its sixth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance. The Commodores have been ranked in the top 10 nationally throughout the season.
Troy is coming off a regular season Sun Belt Conference championship and is 42-17. The Trojans are making their first NCAA tourney appearance since 2007.
Belmont is making its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament after winning the Atlantic Sun tournament championship. The Bruins are 36-24 on the year.

"We're excited to got to Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt is a great team, obviously. They've got really good pitching as we know. But first things first, we've got to take care of Troy so we'll see how that goes."

"Once you get in the postseason, every team is going to be tough. Vanderbilt is a good team, and the other teams I'm sure are going to be good. We're just going to play our game."
On knowing the Cowboys would get a berth
"A couple of years ago, we were in here just sitting around watching and not expecting to get in, and we got in. It's better to expect to get in and then hear your name."
On how the Cowboys are playing
"We've been struggling a little bit, but we can turn that around and hopefully get to playing like we were earlier in the season."
