Cowboy Golf Wraps Up Regional Title

ERIE, Colo. - Oklahoma State's men's golf team posted a closing 282 on Saturday to wrap up its third-straight NCAA Regional title at Colorado National Golf Club, finishing 18 shots ahead of the field.
With their Colorado Regional victory, the top-ranked Cowboys have an NCAA-best nine regional titles. OSU has now advanced to the NCAA Championship in all 65 years of the program's existence, which is also an NCAA record. This season, the Cowboys have won eight of their 12 starts, giving them their highest win total since their nine-victory season in 1994-95.
"This tournament is such a strange feeling, because if you win or finish fifth, you still accomplish the same thing, but you don't want to be on the bubble because that's a very hard place to be," OSU head coach Mike McGraw said. "It's no fun and it's a lot of pressure. I was thrilled that they were able to get us into position where today's round wasn't quite as stressful. The guys just went out and took care of business."
The Cowboys wrapped up the event at the par-72, 7,758-yard layout with a 31-under total of 833. Colorado State was second at 851, while Northwestern finished third at 855. Georgia and Arizona State shared fourth place at 857 to provide the regional's final two qualifying teams for the upcoming NCAA Championships at Karsten Creek in Stillwater. Cal Poly's Geoff Gonzalez claimed the regional's individual qualifying spot after tying for fourth place at 210.
Individually, OSU's Kevin Tway captured medalist honors to extend OSU's string of individual winners to four-straight events this spring. The Edmond, Okla., native's victory was his second of the year and was his third regional victory after wins in 2008 and 2009, making him the first three-time regional winner in NCAA history.
"It feels pretty good, it's the third regional that I have won, but hopefully I can win the NCAA and we can get the NCAA team title," Tway said. "I stayed pretty patient. I started off well, but then hit sort of a hiccup on nine (double bogey). I didn't let it bother me, and I just kept plugging along."
Tway posted a 69 during his final round to finish at 10-under 206 and one stroke clear of Arizona State's Scott Pinckney.
Freshman Talor Gooch fired the squad's low round of the day with a 4-under 68 to finish alone in third place with a 209 total. The Midwest City, Okla., native's showing was his first career top-five finish.
Sophomore Sean Einhaus recorded his best finish of the year as well, tying for fourth place at 210 after carding a 73 during his third round.
Junior Peter Uihlein gave OSU four top-10 finishers, tying for ninth place at 212 after signing for a 74 on Saturday.
Junior Morgan Hoffmann closed with a 72 to finish at 213 and alone in 13th place.
The Cowboys will be in pursuit of their 11th national title when they begin play at the NCAA Championships on May 31 in Stillwater.
