STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State notched its fourth shutout of the season Wednesday as the Cowboys picked up a 7-0 win over St. Gregory's at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Four different OSU hurlers combined for the shutout, and the Cowboys scored all of their runs in the first four innings as they won their third-straight game and improved to 9-3 on the season.
Each of the Cowboys' nine starters collected at least one hit, led by Davis Duren's 3-for-5 day at the plate. Zach Johnson, Dane Phillips and Saulyer Saxon each had two hits, with Phillips extending his hitting streak to 14 games and Johnson's streak reaching 11.
OSU's pitching quartet of Andrew Heck, Randy McCurry, Mike Strong and Jason Hursh combined for 10 strikeouts and allowed just five hits. Heck started the game and allowed one hit in three innings of work, and Strong was credited with his first win of the season after striking out all six batters he faced in two innings of relief.
The Cowboys scored one run in each of the first two innings, getting RBI singles from Luis Uribe in the first and Saxon in the second. Saxon's RBI was the first of the freshman center fielder's career.
OSU's big inning came in the third as they rallied for four runs on four hits. Back-to-back doubles to lead off the frame by Duren and Johnson gave the Cowboys a 3-0 advantage, and the third double of the inning, which came off the bat of Jared Womack, brought home two more runs.
The final run in the third came on a Gabe Weidenaar single, and the Cowboys completed their scoring in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Phillips.
OSU returns to action Friday at 6:30 p.m. when they open a three-game series against New Mexico at Reynolds Stadium.
