Weidenaar Earns Big 12 Honor

IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State junior Gabe Weidenaar has been named the Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Week for games played Feb. 28-March 6, it was announced today by the league office.
Weidenaar, the Cowboys' center fielder, was named the Most Outstanding Player at the Dairy Queen Classic in Tucson, Ariz., where he led OSU to the tourney title last weekend. He had multiple-hit efforts in all three games, including a 4-for-6 effort against Minnesota on Sunday in a win that clinched the championship for the Cowboys. He finished the tourney with a team-high nine hits in 17 trips to the plate as he hit .529 for the tourney. He collected a pair of doubles, four RBIs, a stolen base and four runs, while tallying 11 total bases and a .647 slugging percentage.
A transfer from the College of Southern Nevada, Weidenaar ranks second on the Cowboys with a .447 batting average and is tied for the team lead with 21 hits.
The Big 12 honors a player, pitcher and newcomer of the week every Monday during the regular season. The awards are voted on by a panel of media who cover the conference. This marks the first conference weekly award for a Cowboy player this season.
