STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State put on an offensive show Tuesday night at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium as the Cowboys cruised to a 19-3 run-rule win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in seven innings.
In scoring the season-high 19 runs and improving to 15-5 on the year, OSU pounded out 15 hits, including tying the single-game school record with four triples and blasting a season-best three home runs.
Leading the attack were a quartet of Cowboys with multiple-RBI efforts. Luis Uribe led the way with five runs driven in, while Dane Phillips and Zach Johnson each collected four RBIs and Mark Ginther three.
Phillips was 4-for-5 in the contest and tied a school record with two triples. The sophomore was one of six Cowboys with multiple hits against UAPB.
Picking up the win in his second-career start on the mound was junior Hunter Herrera, who improved to 1-0 after allowing two runs on eight hits in four innings of work.
OSU scored in each of the first five innings, getting runs in first and second frames before crossing the plate four times in the third.
In that inning, Johnson got things started with his second home run of the season, a solo blast over the left field wall. Four batters later, it was Ginther who crushed a pitch that stayed just inside the left field foul pole for a three-run homer and gave the Cowboys a 6-0 lead.
UAPB (6-13) managed a pair of runs in the fourth, getting an RBI single by Sherman Thomas and adding a second run when Trey Austin was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
The Cowboys would put the game away in the bottom of the inning, however, as they erupted for nine runs on seven hits. Once again it was Johnson getting things going, this time with a two-RBI double. Jared Womack and Devin Shines followed with RBIs before it was Uribe's turn as the senior brought home three runs with his first round tripper of the year.
Phillips provided OSU's final two runs in the fourth with a two-RBI triple.
OSU tacked on four more runs in the fifth, getting two-RBI hits from Uribe and Phillips.
The Cowboys return to action Wednesday when they host Washington at 6:30 p.m.
