DEKALB, Ill. – The second-ranked Oklahoma State men's cross country team took first place at the NCAA Midwest Regional, hosted by Northern Illinois, to take the team title in all five events it has competed in this season.
The Cowboys were lead by senior Colby Lowe, who placed third, completing the 10,000-meter race in 31:22.87. It is the third time this season Lowe has been the Cowboys' top finisher.
Sophomore Shadrack Kipchirchir completed the race in 31:22.89 to finish fourth, senior German Fernandez came in fifth with a time of 31:22.90 and sophomore Tom Farrell crossed the finish line at 31:23.03 to place sixth.
Freshman Fabian Clarkson notched a 24th-place finish in 31:53.60 to round out the Cowboys' scoring five. The Cowboys' team score of 42 narrowly beat second place Oklahoma's 45.
The No. 23 OSU women placed second in the 6,000-meter race with 119 team points, which trailed only Iowa State. With the second-place finish, the Cowgirls qualify to compete as a team at the NCAA Championships in consecutive seasons for just the second time in school history, when the 1988 and 1989 teams accomplished that feat.
For the fourth consecutive race, the Cowgirls were led by sophomore Natalja Piliusina, who finished ninth with a time of 21:15.45.
Freshman Monika Juodeskaite finished in 25th place, recording a time of 21:45.43, while senior Victoria Fratczak finished 26th, completing the race in 21:46.75.
Junior Jackie Campos finished in 22:01.82 to place 29th, and sophomore Caileigh Glenn rounded out the scoring five for OSU with a 30th-place finish in 22:02.19. With the second-place finish, the Cowgirls have placed in the top three in all five events they have competed in this season.
Both teams will return to action on Nov. 21 when they compete at the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind.
