Cowboys Win Fourth-straight Big 12 Championship

COLLEGE STATION, Texas. – The Oklahoma State men's cross country team took home its fourth-straight Big 12 Championship and senior German Fernandez won his second-career Big 12 individual championship on Saturday at the Big 12 Championships, hosted by Texas A&M.
The Cowboys posted 30 team points, defeating second place Oklahoma by 13 points. Fernandez finished the 8,000-meter race in 23:25.4, the second-fastest time at the event. It is his first individual championship in cross country since his freshman year in 2008. Including cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field, it is the seventh Big 12 individual championship for Fernandez.
Senior Colby Lowe finished in second just behind Fernandez, completing the race in 23:25.8. Sophomore Shadrack Kipchirchir finished in fifth place with a time of 23:34.8, while sophomore Tom Farrell finished in 23:51.6, coming in eighth place.
Sophomore Joseph Manilafasha rounded out the scoring five, completing the race in 24:07.7 for a 14th-place finish. All of OSU's top-five finishers earned All-Big 12 honors for the fifth-consecutive year.
The OSU women finished in third place, their highest finish since Dave Smith took over as head coach. The Cowgirls were led by sophomore Natalja Piliusina, who completed the 6,000-meter race in 19:45.9 to finish in fourth place.
Freshman Monika Juodeskaite recorded a 15th-place finish with a time 20:21.3. She and Piliusina earned All-Big 12 status.
Sophomore Kate Kujawa came in 18th place, completing the race in 20:27.8, while senior Teran Mixon completed the race in 20:31.5 to finish 22nd. Junior Jackie Campos' 26th-place finish in 20:45.9 rounded out the Cowgirls' scoring five.
The Cowgirls' 86 points put them behind only Iowa State (68 points) and Texas (83 points).
Both teams will return to action on Nov. 12 when they compete at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Dekalb, Ill.
