STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State dropped its second-straight Big 12 Conference series after suffering a 5-3 loss to Texas A&M in a 10-inning affair Saturday at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Kenny Jackson's two-out, two-RBI double off OSU reliever Tyler Lyons in the top of the 10th inning was the difference as the Cowboys fell to 28-22 overall and 8-15 in Big 12 play. TAMU improved to 32-18-1 and 11-11-1 in the league.
Lyons fell to 3-6 on the season with the loss. The senior southpaw took over for starter Brad Propst in the seventh and allowed two runs on four hits.
Luis Uribe had a big day at the plate for the Cowboys as the junior right fielder tied a career high with four hits, and Kevin David also had a pair of hits in the contest.
After Propst and TAMU starter Ross Stripling kept the game scoreless through the first five innings, both teams rallied for three runs in the sixth.
The Aggies collected three consecutive hits to lead off the inning, with Adam Smith's two-RBI triple giving the visitors a 2-0 lead. TAMU added its third run on a sacrifice fly by Kevin Gonzalez.
OSU answered in the bottom of the frame with a two-out rally. Nico Rosthenhausler began the rally by reaching first on a wild pitch after striking out, and the Cowboys took advantage of the good fortune and extra out.
After Rosthenhausler stole second, Uribe plated OSU's first run with a single. Up next, Dane Phillips blasted his third home run of the season with a shot over the right-field wall to tie the score.
The game remained deadlocked until the 10th. Joe Patterson led off the inning with an infield single, and after a sacrifice bunt and an intentional walk, TAMU had runners at first and second with one out. Lyons got Gonzalez to pop up for the second out of the inning and worked the count to 1-2 on Jackson before the Aggie third baseman came up with the game-winning hit.
TAMU closer John Stilson earned the win to improve to 7-1 as the righty held the Cowboys scoreless over the final 2.2 innings.
OSU will look to get back in the win column in Sunday's finale, which is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
