COLUMBIA, Mo. - Oklahoma State failed in its bid for its first road win in Big 12 Conference play Friday night as Missouri knocked off the Cowboys, 9-2, at Taylor Stadium.
With the loss, OSU fell to 19-13 overall and 3-7 in league play. The Cowboys are 0-4 in conference road games this season.
After winning two-straight starts, junior Thomas Keeling suffered the loss on the mound for the Cowboys to fall to 3-4 on the season. The southpaw only allowed three hits and recorded eight strikeouts in five innings of work, but he also issued five walks and surrendered five runs.
OSU collected just four hits in the contest, two of those by catcher Kevin David. It marked the third consecutive Big 12 game in which the Cowboys have managed only four hits.
The Cowboys got on the scoreboard first when, with two outs in the top of the third inning, Davis Duren delivered a solo home run, his fourth of the season. The blast also extended Duren's hitting streak to 12 games.
The lead lasted just one inning, however. In the fourth, Keeling issued a leadoff walk to Andrew Thigpen, and two batters later, Brett Nicholas homered for the seventh time this season, a two-run shot that gave the Tigers a lead they would never surrender.
Mizzou (19-14, 4-6) added another run in the fourth and struck for two more in the sixth to make the score 5-1.
The Cowboys trimmed their deficit to 5-2 in the seventh when Nico Rosthenhausler scored on a balk by MU pitcher Nick Tepesch.
Missouri put the game away in the eighth with a four-run rally, with all of the runs coming with two outs. The Tigers collected three RBI singles in the inning with the fourth run coming home on a throwing error by Duren.
The two teams return to action Saturday at 3 p.m.
