Pair Of Cowboys Drafted On Final Day Of MLB Draft

NEW YORK — Oklahoma State had two players selected Thursday on the final day of the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
Dylan Brown and Kevin David, both draft-eligible sophomores, were added to OSU's list of draftees Thursday, bringing the total number of Cowboys drafted in the '09 MLB Draft to eight. The eight draft picks marks the fifth-highest total in school history; a school record 11 Cowboys were drafted in 2007.
OSU has now had 39 players drafted in six years under head coach Frank Anderson, including 18 in the top 10 rounds and 28 in the top 20 rounds.
Brown, a native of Tampa, Fla., was drafted in the 34th round by the Oakland Athletics. He has played two seasons for the Cowboys but spent the 2009 campaign as a redshirt with an injury.
In 60 career games, Brown owns a .255 batting average to go along with five home runs and 19 RBIs. He is one of only 10 Cowboys to hit three home runs in a game, a feat he achieved against Missouri State in 2008.
Brown is the younger brother of former OSU All-American Corey Brown, who was drafted by Oakland in the first round of the 2007 draft and now plays for the Midland RockHounds, the A's Double A affiliate.
A native of Baton Rouge, La., David had a breakout sophomore season in 2009 and was selected in the 35th round by the Chicago Cubs. After redshirting last season with an arm injury, David returned to action and hit .311 with six homers and 47 RBIs to earn honorable mention All-Big 12 honors. His 23 doubles rank as the second most in the league this season.
As a freshman in 2007, David appeared in 12 games and hit .278 with nine RBIs.
