Cowboy Golf Looks For Third Consecutive Big 12 Title
Oklahoma State's men's golf team will attempt to make it three consecutive conference championships this week when they begin play at the Big 12 Championship at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan. The top-ranked Cowboys enter play as the event's defending champion after cruising to a 20-shot victory last year at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas. OSU will begin play at 8 a.m. on Monday and will be paired with Texas Tech and Texas. The 72-hole event will begin with 36 holes on Monday at the par-70, 6,700-yard layout. The field will play 18 holes on Tuesday followed by Wednesday's final round. Live scoring for the event will be available at golfstat.com.
OSU At The Big 12 Championship
OSU has won a league-best six Big 12 titles since the formation of the conference in 1996. OSU won the inaugural tournament in 1997 and repeated in 1998 before claiming titles in 2000, 2005, 2007 and last season. The Cowboys have also produced the event's individual medalist on six occasions with Leif Westerberg (1997), Charles Howell (2000), Anders Hultman (2002), Hunter Mahan (2003), Pablo Martin (2007) and Rickie Fowler (2008) all taking top honors. Overall, the Cowboys have won 51 league titles and have produced 43 individual champions.

Oklahoma State's men's golf team defended its Big 12 title with a 20-shot victory at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas. The Cowboys began the day with a 16-shot lead over the field and pushed the margin to 20 after carding a 291 final round. OSU finished the 72-hole event with an 11-under-par total of 1,141. Texas finished as the event's runner-up at 1,161 and Texas Tech came in four shots back at 1,165 and in third place. For the Cowboys, the title was the 51st in the 62-year history of the program and their second consecutive victory in the event. Overall, OSU has won a league-best six Big 12 titles. Individually, three Cowboys finished in the top 10 led by a 1-2 showing from freshmen Rickie Fowler and Kevin Tway. The win by Fowler also resulted in back-to-back medalists at the event for the Cowboys and was the sixth time an OSU player has won the title. For Fowler, the top-ranked player in the country, the win was the second of his career and came by four shots over Tway. The Murrieta, Calif., native entered the final round one shot behind his teammate, but surged into the top spot after a final round 68 gave him a 9-under 279 total. Tway posted a 1-over 73 during his second round to earn the first runner-up finish of his young Cowboy career. The Edmond, Okla., native finished with a 5-under 283 total at the par-72, 7,470-yard layout.
