March 26, 2009 | Cowboy Baseball
STILLWATER, Okla. Â Oklahoma State extended its winning streak to three games by completing a midweek sweep of UNLV with a 15-1 victory Wednesday night at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Doug Kroll blasted a pair of home runs and collected a career-high six RBIs to lift 17th-ranked OSU to 17-7 on the season. Kroll was one of three Cowboys, along with Tom Belza and Mark Ginther, who went 3-for-5 on the night.
Starter Tyler Lyons improved to 4-1 on the mound with a pre-determined three inning start in which he did not allow a run. The southpaw gave up just two hits and struck out two.
OSU took an early 1-0 lead in the third on an RBI double by Belza before breaking the game open in the middle innings.
In the fourth, Neil Medchill led off with a walk, and Kroll's double to right-center field brought him home with OSU's second run of the contest. Dean Green followed with an RBI single, and Brad Propst collected the first RBI of his career with a groundout to make the score 4-0.
The Cowboys continued to light up the scoreboard in the fifth, with Kroll's three-run homer to left highlighting a four-run rally.
OSU's hot hitting continued in the sixth as the Cowboys rallied for five runs on three hits. Rafael Thomas, who walked to lead off the frame, scored the Pokes' first run on a wild pitch, and Medchill followed with a two-RBI double to make the score 11-0. The hit also extended Medchill's season-long hitting streak to 11 games.
Up next, Kroll delivered his second homer in as many at bats, a two-run shot that marked his seventh homer of the season and his third two-home run game of the year.
UNLV, which dropped to 13-10 on the season, managed its lone run in the seventh on a home run by Bryan Resnick.
The Cowboys return to Big 12 Conference action Friday at 3 p.m. when they host Missouri at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
