Cowboys Drop Second Game To Nebraska
March 21, 2009 | Cowboy Baseball
LINCOLN, Neb. Â Oklahoma State dropped its third-straight game Saturday with a 12-4 loss to Nebraska in front of 4,724 fans at Hawks Field.
With the loss, the 11th-ranked Cowboys fell to 14-7, while Nebraska clinched the series and improved to 14-6-1 overall and 3-2 in Big 12 Conference play.
Junior southpaw Tyler Lyons suffered the loss for OSU as he allowed six runs, five of them earned, on eight hits in just two innings of work. The two-inning effort was the shortest-ever start for Lyons, who had gone at least five innings in each of his previous 18 career starts.
The loss also snapped Lyons' streak of 13-straight decisions with a win as he fell to 3-1 on the season.
Nebraska jumped on Lyons early, scoring three runs on four hits in its first at bat. Kyle Bubak led off the bottom of the first with a double, and Tyler Farst's single up the middle brought home the Cornhuskers' first run.
The Huskers added runs on back-to-back RBI hits by Jeff Tezak and Cody Neer to take a 3-0 after one inning of play.
NU doubled its lead with another three spot in the second, the big blow coming on a two-RBI double by Adam Bailey before another RBI single by Tezak made the score 6-0.
The Cowboys plated all their runs over the next two innings. In the third, Tom Belza brought home OSU's first run with a single, and Neil Medchill's two-run double cut the Pokes' deficit to 6-3.
OSU tallied another run in the fourth as Micheal Dabbs made the score 6-4 with a sacrifice fly.
But that was as close as the Cowboys would get. Nebraska went up 7-4 in the bottom of the fourth before a five-run rally in the eighth put the game away.
Medchill had two of the Cowboys' seven hits and drove in a pair of runs.
Jordan Roualdes picked up the win on the mound for the Huskers to improve to 3-1 as the lefty worked seven innings and allowed all four of the Cowboys' runs.
Sunday's series finale is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
