Rickie Fowler Wraps Up Third Round at FBR Open

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.—Oklahoma State sophomore Rickie Fowler carded a 72 during the third round of the PGA Tour's FBR Open on Saturday at the TPC Scottsdale to stand in a tie for 47th place.
Fowler will begin tomorrow's final round tied with six other players at 2-under 211 and 10 strokes off the pace of tournament leader Kenny Perry.
“I would like to try to finish in the top 10, that is my goal,” Fowler said. “I played a little rough today, so to get back up there I am going to have to play really well tomorrow.”
The 2008 Ben Hogan Award winner turned at even par and remained that way through 12 holes. Fowler then navigated a five-hole stretch that included two birdies and three bogeys to finish 1-over for the day.
Fowler charged up the leaderboard on Friday, firing a bogey-free 66 to move from a tie for 88th into a tie for 29th place at 3-under 139 and inside the cut line.
“I knew I had to get back to at least even to make the cut,” Fowler said. “I made a 25-footer on No. 4 and then hit a wedge close on No. 5 and made that putt.”
“I made a couple more birdies on the back before play got suspended due to darkness yesterday. I got back out this morning and made my birdie on 17 to finish strong.”
Fowler opened with three-straight pars before recording his back-to-back birdies to make the turn at 2-under 33. After a birdie at the 10th, he added birdies on Nos. 15 and 17 to get to 5-under par for the day.
The Murrieta, Calif., native carded a 73 on Thursday during his first round. Fowler began play on the back nine, carding seven pars and a pair of bogeys to turn at 2-over. After posting bogeys on two of his first three holes on the front nine, he rebounded with a pair of birdies to get in with his 2-over score.
Fowler will begin his final round tomorrow morning at 9:35 a.m. local time and will be paired with Cameron Beckman and Vaughn Taylor.
