Peter Uihlein Wins Dixie Amateur

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - Oklahoma State sophomore Peter Uihlein added another impressive amateur title to his credentials on Tuesday with a playoff victory at the Dixie Amateur at Heron Bay Golf Club.
"I hadn't played since CordeValle so I was rusty and didn't know what to expect," Uihlein said. "It is always nice to play well, but I hadn't played in a while."
"I was fortunate that my short game was still good and it saved me in some spots. I have been working hard during the offseason and I think that showed."
The win continued an impressive run for Uihlein. After advancing to the quarterfinals at the U.S. Amateur last summer, he posted a 4-0 mark for the United States at the Walker Cup.
On the collegiate circuit, he helped the Cowboys to a pair of team wins in the fall and had individual victories in two of his four starts. Uihlein won the Ping/Golfweek Invitational and the Gifford Collegiate at CordeValle.
At this week's event, Uihlein opened with consecutive 68s before closing with a 69 to finish at 11-under 205 and tied atop the leaderboard with Mu Hu. The Cowboy standout was the only player in the field to card three-straight rounds in the 60s at the rain-shortened event.
Uihlein defeated Hu on the first playoff hole, which was contested on the course's signature 18th hole, after Hu hit his drive into the water.
"We played ball-in-hand and that allows you to fire at pins and I made some good putts. This is definitely going to give me confidence going to Argentina," Uihlein said.
Up next for Uihlein on the tournament schedule is a trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina where he will compete for the United States squad at the Copa de las Americas.
