Cowboy Golf In Seventh Place At Fighting Illini Invitational

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. — Oklahoma State's men's golf team opened its fall season on Friday at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational with a 291 team total to finish the day in seventh place at Olympia Fields Country Club.
Despite their 11-over score, the second-ranked Cowboys find themselves just three shots out of the lead. OSU will begin tomorrow's second round one shot behind Stanford and Texas, which are tied for fifth place. A trio of teams finished at 8-over 288 as Indiana, Illinois and Penn State all share the top spot on the team leaderboard.
Individually, Stanford's Joseph Bramlett and Indiana's Alex Martin paced the field with 2-under 68s.
Freshman Peter Uihlein was solid in his OSU debut, posting an even-par 70 to come in tied for fifth place. The Bradenton, Fla., native reeled off a string of 13 consecutive pars to start his day before posting a birdie at the 14th. Uihlein's only blemish on his scorecard was a bogey at the 17th.
One stroke back of Uihlein was senior Trent Leon, who finished in a tie for 10th place with his 71. The Dallas, Texas native made the turn at 2-over, but strung together eight consecutive pars before posting his first birdie of the day at the 18th hole.
The remaining three players in the OSU lineup all came in tied for 41st place after posting 75s. Senior Jon McLean and sophomores Rickie Fowler and Kevin Tway all finished at 5-over.
