Cowboys Win Bedlam Opener, 7-1

TULSA, Okla. — Oklahoma State rode the left arm of Andrew Oliver and a lineup that collected 14 hits to a 7-1 win over Bedlam-rival Oklahoma Friday night at Drillers Stadium in front of an overflow crowd of 11,232 fans.

Oliver improved to 6-2 on the season with an eight inning, 132-pitch effort. The sophomore allowed just one run on seven hits and struck out seven. He has now allowed two or fewer earned runs in 12 of his 13 starts this season.
Offensively, the Cowboys were paced by the heart of their order as Matt Hague and Rebel Ridling collected three hits apiece, while Ridling and Donnie Webb each drove in a pair of runs.
OSU took the game's first lead with a two-out rally in the top of the first inning. After a Hague single, Ridling doubled to center field to give the Cowboys a 1-0 advantage.
The Cowboys' lead did not last long, however, as OU (31-22-1, 8-16-1) answered with a run in the bottom of the inning. Following a leadoff double, an infield single and a sacrifice bunt, J.T. Wise tied the score at 1-1 with a sacrifice fly to left field.
OSU regained the lead with a three-run rally on five hits in the second frame. Tom Belza got the scoring started with an RBI double to right field, and Webb followed with a single that brought home a pair of runs and made the score 4-1.
The score remained 4-1 until the fifth when Hague led off the inning with his ninth home run of the season, which drove OU starter C.J. Blue (6-3) from the game.
Hague started another Cowboy rally in the seventh, leading off the inning with a double and advancing to third on a single by Ridling. Hague would score on a sacrifice fly by Neil Medchill to put OSU up 6-1.
OSU's final run of the night came on a mammoth homer by Ridling over the left field wall in the ninth. The blast was the senior first baseman's 16th of the season, which leads the Big 12.
Webb, Luis Flores and Tyrone Hambly each had three hits for the Cowboys, while Trey Sperring led the Sooners with a 3-for-4 night.
